Mary Plant Faust, a civic leader and philanthropist in St. Louis, died Friday (May 3, 1996) at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur after a brief illness. She was 95 and lived in Chesterfield.

Mrs. Faust served on the boards of numerous civic groups since the 1930s. She was also a former head of the women's committee of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and a past president of the St. Louis Garden Club.

For many years, Mrs. Faust and her late husband, Leicester Busch Faust, a civic leader and executive at Anheuser Busch Cos. Inc., were benefactors of numerous institutions, charities and groups, including the St. Louis Art Museum, Washington University, St. Louis Abbey, Missouri Botanical Garden and Maryville University.

In 1968, she and her husband donated the land for Faust Park in Chesterfield. The land included the home of Frederick Bates, the second governor of Missouri.
