Following his service at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base during World War II, Bert managed and then owned Cherry's Home Furnishings in Xenia, Ohio. In Xenia, he served as president of the YMCA when the new facility was built. Also, he was a past recipient of the F. M. Torrence Award.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, David (Kathy) Fath, Albert "Pete" G. (Lillian) Fath, III; grandchildren, David K. "Kelly" (Sherri) Fath, Jr., D. Kevin (Heather) Fath, A.G. (Amy) Fath, IV, Bradley D. (Sara) Fath; step-children, Michael Jordan, Mrs. David (Julie) Wedderburn and her family; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Marian Yearnd and Carolyn Thielen; two nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Anita Fath and Connie Fath; parents, the Rev. Albert G. and Edna Fath, Sr.
Visitation with the family will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Highland Hills Baptist Church, 1415 Northrup Ave. NW, Grand Rapids 49504. Funeral services will immediately follow with Pastor Dave Lamb officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac.
