*New Haven Register (CT) - October 8, 1989
Deceased Name: Carmela F. DeRosa, 105
Carmela DeRosa, featured in a story on Page E1 of today's Living section, died Thursday at 105. The section was printed before the Register was notified of her death. Her obituary appears on Page B10.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday for Carmela Farina DeRosa, 105, formerly of 1345 Whalley Ave., who died Thursday, Oct. 5, 1989, at the home of her son, Thomas DeRosa. She was the wife of the late Gabriel DeRosa.

Her funeral will leave the Porto Funeral Home, Bull Hill Lane, West Haven, at 9:15 a.m. The Mass will be said at 10 in St. Aedan's Church. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven.

Born in Santa Maria, Province of Caserta, Italy, Feb. 28, 1884, Mrs. DeRosa came to this country when she was 11 years old.

She and her husband operated a farm in the Westville section of the city for many years.

In a statement she made on her 100th birthday, Mrs. DeRosa attributed her longevity to her years of hard work rearing her children and working on the farm.

Mrs. DeRosa was a member of St. Ann's Society of Assumption Church and the Holy Eucharistic League of St. Aedan's Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Theresa Testa of Woodbridge, Ann Pellegrino of Vero Beach, Fla., Dorothy Sebastian of Meriden and Rose Kerr of Waterbury; six sons, Michael DeRosa of Branford, Charles DeRosa of West Haven, Lawrence DeRosa of Hamden, Thomas DeRosa of New Haven, Carl DeRosa of Orange and Gabriel DeRosa Jr. of Woodbridge; 32 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. DeRosa was predeceased by three sons, Silvester DeRosa, M.D., and Anthony and Bill DeRosa; three sisters, Mary Nacca, Anna Monaco, Philomena Salemme, and Antoinette Renzo; and a brother, Dominick Farina.
