Birth: May 11, 1990
Solano County
California, USA
Death: Sep. 26, 2011, Afghanistan

Obit: 8 Oct 2011 in the Tahoe Daily Tribune

Garrett Anthony Fant was suddenly called to God on Sept. 26, 2011, when he stepped on an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Afghanistan. Garrett was living his lifelong dream of becoming an Army Infantryman; he was part of the 4th Squadron, 4th Calvary Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, and 1st Infantry Division out of Fort Riley, Kansas.

Garrett loved his family so much and would show them by going out of his way to help any of them. He was ever so humble and sweet, yet liked joking around and enjoyed a great laugh. His love to read only expanded his already intellectual mind. Garrett was always respectful to people and made anybody feel at home with his kind demeanor.

Garrett leaves behind his mother Julia Farrell of So. Lake Tahoe; father John Fant of American Canyon; sister Shanna Askins of Placerville; brother James Keough of San Diego; grandmother Beverly Towle of So. Lake Tahoe; grandfather Robert Fant of American Canyon; along with several aunts and uncles, and one niece.

The family sorrows greatly over his death, and he will be missed every day.

There'll be one missing Christmas
one place at table--bare,
one smiling face we'll yearn for
just knowing your not there

... One present left beneath the tree
after all have been past out,
with pretty ribbon posed atop,
a heartfelt gift, no doubt

Voices soft, diminished,
we'll sing a Christmas song,
hoping next year's easier,
for you haven't been gone long

We'll have to gather all our faith
and be of one accord,
knowing you are safe with Him--
spending Christmas with our Lord........

I love you Garrett......I will always remember...forever in my heart.
