Funeral services for Viola Clarice Fannin Cookston, 97, of Levelland will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at Fairview Baptist Church in Levelland with Rev. Syl Moore of Lubbock, Rev. Gil Ramirez, pastor, Park Drive Baptist Church, and Rev. D. J. Lewis, pastor, Fairview Baptist Church in Levelland, officiating. Burial will be in City of Levelland Cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home in Levelland. She died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at Levelland Nursing Home.

She was born on May 1, 1911, in West Liberty, Ky., to James Frank and Lyda B. McGuire Fannin. She moved to Illinois and lived with her grandparents after her mother's death in 1915. Viola graduated from Wapella High School in Wapella, Ill., in 1929. She moved to Shallowater in 1930 and married Cecil Cookston on Aug. 10, 1933, in Clovis, N.M. He died in 1990. She spent 10 years in Choctaw, Okla., returning to this area of Texas in 1945, where she resided until moving to Keota, Okla., in 1975. She moved back to Hockley County in 1999. She was preceded in death by a son, Monte Cookston, in 1998 and brother, Farris Virgil Fannin. She was a Baptist and active member of her church wherever she lived.

Survivors include a son, a daughter-in-law, two sisters, two granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren.
