Barbara Yvonne Hornsby Fannin entered eternal rest on Friday, July 25, 2008. Barbara was born September 21, 1949 in Austin, Texas. She was the first of two children born to Bishop William Hornsby, Sr. and Kline Hornsby. In her early childhood her family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia which she had been a resident of for 55 years.
Barbara was an honors '67 graduate from Harper High School and a '71 Spelman College graduate. She later received her Master's degree from Georgia State University. As an educator at Frederick Douglass High School in the Atlanta Public School system for 36 years, she received many accolades and honors. She is preceded in death by her mother Kline Hornsby, husband Barrion Fannin, Sr., father William Hornsby, Sr., and daughter Keisha Ayanna Fannin. She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life, her children Avita Yvonne and Barrion, Jr.; grandchildren William Warrington and McKinzie Fannin; brother William H. Hornsby, Jr; (Gilda) nephew William H. Hornsby III; the Hornsby and Weaver family descendants; brother-in-laws Jimmie (Esther) Fannin and Larry (Carrie) Fannin; and a host of family and friends.
The funeral was held on August 31, 2008, at New Life Church in Lithonia, GA. Arrangement: Alexander's Mortuary, Fairburn, GA.
