Pittsfield - April 25 - Frank M. Fairbanks, 73, one of the town's most widely known citizens, died this morning at his Park Street home following a brief illness. He had lived here 22 years but was a native of Monroe, where he was born September 15, 1866. He was one of eight children of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Chase Fairbanks.

In 1890, he married Miss Cora Libby of Winterport. They had a son, William, who died in 1922. Following several years' residence in Monroe, Mr. and Mrs. Fairbanks moved to Unity in 1899 where he opened a funeral business. In 1918 he moved to Pittsfield and started another undertaking business, still continuing his first business in Unity. Mr. Fairbanks retired in 1935.

He was best known throughout the state for his keen interest in bands, having been a member of the Shrine Band of Bangor, Harry Drew's Band of Waterville and many local band groups. In 1924, Mr. Fairbanks was instrumental in bringing about the organization of a boys' band here and followed that group with a second band in 1931 which appeared at many holiday observances, political and social functions throughout the state.

Interment will be in the Village Cemetery in Pittsfield. Funeral arrangements will be announced. (Published in the Waterville Morning Sentinel)
