James Facenda, 85, of Havertown, a retired carpenter and flower shop owner, died Jan. 11 at Delaware County Memorial Hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation from a fire.
Mr. Facenda grew up in South Philadelphia. During World War II, he served as an Army medic in the Pacific and later, in occupied Japan.
Following his discharge, he was a master carpenter for contractors working on residential properties in Philadelphia.
For 30 years, Mr. Facenda and his wife, June Mangesia Facenda, owned June's Florist in Havertown. They retired in the late 1980s.
He loved baseball, his daughter Mary said, and had breakfast every morning with the regulars at Manoa Diner.
He also is survived by daughter Victoria Sweeney; sons David and James; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. His wife died in 1989, and a son, Louis, died in 2002.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. today at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square. Friends may call at 10 a.m. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple Township.
