Dune Acres woman killed
PORTER - Faith Halley, 87, of Dune Acres died in a Saturday morning accident on U.S. 20 at Mineral Springs Road.
The accident occurred at 10:30 a.m. and involved two vehicles, Porter County Coroner John Evans said.
Halley was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause was multiple force blunt trauma, Evans said.
Porter police investigated. No further information was available.

DUNE ACRES - Faith Fitzgerald Halley, a resident of the Duneland area for over half a century, led a long, service-oriented life before she died in an auto accident April 18 at the age of 87.
Born in New York, her family moved to Chicago before World War I where she finished high school at an unusually early age. She received a junior college certificate from Principia College, a bachelor's degree in political science
from Smith College and a master's degree in political science from the University of Chicago.
During World War II, the Halleys designed and built a home in Dune Acres. They moved in in 1948 and spent the rest of their lives there.
When Mrs. Halley received the Duneland Chamber of Commerce Senior Service Award in 1995, local historian Jane Walsh- Brown stated: "Faith Halley serves as an excellent example of a person who has contributed to her community both through her career and through her work as a dedicated volunteer. Her innovative leadership in the volunteer field makes her a role model for others and a very valuable resource for her community."
For many years Mrs. Halley was an active volunteer for Westchester Public Library, the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and the League of Women Voters.
She taught social studies and civics at Chesterton High School, was the first woman to serve on the Board of the Duneland School Corp. and served on the Duneland School Building Corp. board, which built Brummitt and Bailly Elementary Schools and the auditorium-pool addition to Chesterton High School.
Mrs. Halley founded the Literacy Volunteer of Northwest Indiana program and prepared dozens of people for citizenship examinations. Through her efforts, hundreds of tutors have been trained to teach basic reading and English as a second language to thousands of adults.
In Dune Acres she served as a member of the Town Council, the Planning Commission, the Zoning Commission and as Environmental Commissioner.
Mrs. Halley visited dozens of countries on five continents, often more than once and on extended study tours.
Mrs. Halley is survived by her son, James Woods Halley, Jr.; and two grandsons, Wilson Salvatore Halley and Mark Antonio Halley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Woods Halley Sr. in 1975 and one son, Wilson Fitzgerald Halley in 1968.
A memorial service will be Sunday, April 26 at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton at 1 p.m. Friends may call on the family from noon until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Minority Law Student Stanford Wilson Halley Memorial Fund.
