Christian Slagle Eyster, born in 1814 in Pennsylvania, was considered to be a well-read lawyer and had a large practice in Pennsylvania. President Andrew Johnson appointed Eyster as Justice of the Supreme Court of the Territory of Colorado from 1866 to 1871. He later served as Denver District Attorney from 1875-1877 and Prosecuting Attorney for Weld County from 1875-1877. After Eyster's death in 1886, he was described by the Bar as one of its most honest, honorable, and conscientious members. "No more just or upright judge ever sat upon the Bench or wore judicial ermine," were words in the resolution following his death. (per Judges Wall Project 2016-2017)
