Revolutionary War Soldier. He was a captain in the Philadelphia City Guard. later he held the same rank in the Philadelphia Artillery Brigade. Finally he became a colonel in the Philadelphia Artillery Battalion. He fought at Trenton, Princeton, Germantown, and wintered at Valley Forge. Eyre was an adviser to George Washington. His family was in the shipping business in Philadelphia and provided the revolution with ships. They also provided loans to the Continental Congress. He was the son of George Eyre and Mary Smith, the brother of Benjamin G. Eyre, and the husband of Lydia Wright.
