Stanley Howard, overseer in the mill of the Nonotuck silk company of Leeds, met with an accident on Tuesday, which must result fatally. In attempting to cross a bridge in a wagon to which a horse-rake was attached, the rake came in collision with the corner of the bridge, and he was thrown violently to the ground, striking on his head and shoulders with a shock so severe as to part the ligaments of the spinal column just below the base of the neck, causing a total paralysis of the body and limbs. His wife was driving the horse at the time, and he was attempting to guide the rake.

She appears in the 1880 census as a widow with two children, Charles and Ella. Their daughter, Anna, does not appear in the 1880 census; she probably died in infancy. Ella was born 8 months after her father's death.
