Oma Thankful Everett Daugherty passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2008, at her home on Lookout Mountain. Oma was affectionately known as O.T., and she will be sadly missed by all who loved her. O.T. was born in St. Elmo, a community founded by her great-grandfather, A.M. Johnson. She graduated from Chattanooga High School, and the University of Chattanooga, where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. Also, she was a member of the Judge David Campbell Chapter of the DAR, with over 20 ancestors in the American Revolution. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church and an affiliate member of the Lookout Mountain Beautiful Garden Club. In 1970, O.T, suffered a debilitating stroke, and despite her limitations, she lived a full, inspiring life for the remaining 38 years. She was known throughout the community for her love of her gardens, her family and her community.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Harry Miller Daugherty Jr.; her sister, Margaret Everett Tucker; parents, Malone Johnson Everett and Ozier Belle Nichols; granddaughter, Carrie Amanda Daugherty; and great-granddaughter, Emily Ransom.
O.T. is survived by her brother; three sons and daughters-in-law; one daughter and son-in-law; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation held on October 13 at the Fellowship Hall at Thankful Episcopal Church in St. Elmo.
