Louise E. Denk, age 81, of Lititz, PA, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous fight with cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends at home on Thursday, January 29, 2009. She was the wife of the late Gere Denk who passed away on Dec. 13, 2005. Louise was born in Elizabeth, NJ, to the late Anna and James Evrard. She was a member of the Lititz Moravian Church, baptized on March 24, 1929. She graduated from the former Lititz High School in 1947. After school, Louise worked for several local companies, among them, Hamilton Watch and the RCA Corp. where she worked from 1973 until her retirement in July of 1987. She also worked part time after retirement for the Lititz Weis Market and, most recently, at the Lititz Elementary School Cafeteria.
Louise was one of those rare people who was blessed with an abundant spirit for living life to the fullest, as well as being kind, caring, and having compassion for others. She loved to host her many friends and family at her summer cottage along the Conestoga River near Talmage. Louise also enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with her husband, Gere. She was known throughout her neighborhood for her famous chocolate cake and her special barbecue, often inviting some local neighbors in for some snacks and conversation. Louise always had a smile and a kind word for those who walked along her side yard on Raspberry Lane.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Siebert, in 1988. Louise is survived by a daughter, Elaine Derrish, wife of Barry Derrish, and a son, Michael Holiday, three grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
