Barbara Betelak Evans, 85, of East Syracuse, passed away on Saturday (9 Nov 2013) at Iroquois Nursing Home. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late John and Helen Betelak. Barbara was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville, where she attended daily Mass, bible study, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Manlius Senior Center and a former volunteer with the Red Cross Blood Mobile. Barbara was a great role model and source of inspiration, love and support to her family. She will be remembered for her smile, cheerfulness and friendship. Her spirit of kindness touched the lives of many. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Sharon (David) Scheibel of Jamesville; a son, Michael (Loretta) Evans of Hudson, OH; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Gordon Evans, in 2003; and by her brother, John Betelak; and sister, Lois Rex. Services: 9:15 a.m. Thursday from Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel and 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. Contributions may be made to the Rescue Mission, 155 Gifford St., Syracuse, NY 13202.
