From the Republican for Oct. 2, 1969:

Joseph O. Evans, age 65, well-known Pittsboro resident, died Saturday in the
Hendricks County Hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was
retired from the Greyhound Bus Lines where he had been employed as a driver
and safety instructor for 38 years. During that time he received many
service and safety awards.

He had lived in the Pittsboro community the greater part of his lifetime. He
was the son of Jesse and Etta Wells Evans, who were among the early settlers
of that area.

He graduated from the Pittsboro High School and attended the Christian
Church there. He was active in the Hendricks County Historical Society and
many other civic affairs of the community. Following his retirement, he
enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, flowers and the farm.

Funeral services were Tuesday from the Gregory Funeral Home in Pittsboro
with burial in the Lizton K. of P. Cemetery.

Survivors include the widow, Ondah Evans, two children, Joseph Allan Evans,
Jackson, Mich., and Mrs. Wendell (Linda) Bridges, Indianapolis; a grandson,
Joseph Andrew Bridges, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Jeannette Winkelman,
Pittsboro.
