1870 U.S. Federal Census – NA Film #M593-1179, page 337 Rush Twp., Champaign County, Ohio:
Charles E. Evans, age 31, occupation of tin ware dealer; Frances J., age 26; Sarah E, age 8; Charles A., age 6; Emma, age 3; Leroy, age 1; and Henry M. Grimes ,age 15, apprentice.

Charles E. Evans enlisted on May 2, 1864 in the 132nd Regiment Company "C" for 100 days that was mustered out on September 10, 1864. Age at the time of enlistment was 24. This notation appears on page 576 of Volume #8 of the "Roster of Ohio Soldiers". (The regiment was organized at Camp Chase and contained 3 companies; one being the 38th National Guard from Logan County, Ohio.) Grave card at the State Library of Ohio confirms service for C..E. Evans Alias Evans, Charles E. Date enlisted May 2, 1864 and date discharged September 10, 1864.

Urbana Daily Citizen, Saturday Evening, May 12, 1888 – Front page story entitled: "BLEW HIS HEAD OFF. Horrible suicide of a Logan County Man." Story on suicide of Charles Evans, formerly of North Lewisburg. Reprint of May 11, 1888 story that ran in the Bellefontaine newspaper recounts the events. Mentions residing with a bother, M. L. Evans. He was 49 years old and left behind a wife, daughter, and son. "Interment at North Lewisburg."
