He was a member of Tontogany Presbyterian Church, Tontogany Masonic Lodge #451, Tontogany Volunteer Fire Dept., and a member of the Washington Twp. School Board in the 1950's. He was a basketball official and refereed for over 38 years.
He married Emolie (Coale) on 7 August 1938.
She survives along with 4 children; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and one brother.
