Rose Estrada Aguilera, took her rightful place in Heaven on July 2, 1998. She was born May 19, 1918, in Wellington, Kan., the first in her family to be born in the United States. She was educated in the Pueblo school system and as was typical of young Hispanic women of that era, left school and started working. In 1936, she was crowned Fiesta Queen at the Cinco de Mayo Celebration.

In 1941, she married Pete N. Aguilera. Rose was first and foremost a proud wife and mother, who saw to it that her family was always taken care of. She worked at the Alamo Drug Store which was in a partnership between her husband Pete and his brother Tim. Rose and Vivian Aguilera took care of the accounts receivables.

Her activities outside of her home included the St. Francis Xavier Altar Society; she was a charter member of the Theresians; and served on the Board of Directors for the United Way. She was also a member of the Pueblo Catholic Diocesan Choir.

Survived by her sons, Ray and Karl Aguilera; daughter-in-law, Karen; and grandchildren, Andrea, David, Gabriel and Carla. Also survived by her sister, Vera Maez; brothers-in-law, Tony and Frank Aguilera; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and supportive friends.

Preceded in death by her husband, Pete Aguilera; parents, Francisco and Theodocia Estrada; brothers, Canuto, Frank, Dave and John; sisters, Jesusita and Ramona; brothers-in-law, Theodoro, Rayo and Chico Aguilera; sisters-in-law, Vivian Aguilera, Bea Estrada, Consuelo Estrada, Lala Vasquez, Theresa Caroso and Sadie Robles; niece, Zenida Hernandez; and nephew, Timmy Aguilera.

Rosary, Sunday, 7 p.m., George McCarthy Historic Chapel and funeral Mass, Monday, 10 a.m., Sacred Heart Cathedral Church. Interment, Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of food and flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation in care of the funeral home office.
