Pamela D. Carter, 45, of Kansas City, Kan., passed away January 1, 2009. ViPamela Denise Estell Carter was the first of three children born to Vernon L. Estell, Sr. and Pauline H. Estell.
Pamela was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area and was educated in the public school system. She graduated from
Washington High School in 1981. In 1983 Pamela attended the Dickinson School of Business, where she received a certification in clerical training. In 1987 she attended Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, Missouri where she studied the art of floral design and received certification after six months. She later in life returned to Pioneer Community College to receive a license to be a culinary chef. She continued to take courses throughout her life.
Pamela was an entrepreneur. She made and sold items at craft shows, sold Avon and Mary Kay, and eventually opened a shop in the Kansas City area where some of her beautiful creations were displayed. Pamela was a masterful seamstress and created beautiful clothing. She was musically inclined, playing in the marching band as well as singing in the school choirs. As an adult she was part of two different gospel singing groups, one of which recorded a CD.
In 1983 Pamela married James Carter, Jr. The couple had two children. She was a member of the Crossroads Christian Cathedral of Kansas City where she served as an Associate Minister, Evangelist and sang in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by two sons, one daughter, her parents, one brother, one sister and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on January 9 at Crossroads Christian Cathedral with Pastor T. L. Hood officiating. Pamela Carter died at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She was 45 years old.
