| Birth: | 1892 | | Death: | 1957 |  Mrs. Bessie Essex , 65, widow of the late Walter Z. Essex of Douglass, died Friday at St. Marys hospital at Winfield after a lengthy illness. She was born Feb. 24, 1892 at Harper, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Courtland H. Morrison. She had lived in Douglass most of her life. She had been a member of the Eastern Star, Legion Auxiliary, P.E.O., Semper Fidelis and was organist at the Methodist Church. Mr. Essex died a year and a half ago. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Leola Doughy of Ulysses; Mrs. Mary Stephenson of Winfield; and Mrs. Marjorie Jacobs of Plains; three sons, Raymond of Douglass; Robert of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Harold of Magidaisco, Somalia, Africa; 5 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Viva Rick of Topeka and two brothers, Roscoe Morrison of Bonner Springs; and Robert Morrison of Fall City, Washington. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Douglass Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Karl Magnusson, pastor ; burial in the Douglass cemetery, Hilyard Funeral Home in charge. Singers were Mrs. W.G. Kunkel, Mrs. Paul C. Bare, Harry Robinson and Elmer Elder, with Mrs. C. A. Ogg, organist. Bearers were Homer Stewart, Paul Guyot, J.M. Guyot, Harold House, A. W.
