"Lorena Gerhart Anthony 1912-2011
Lorena Gerhart Anthony was born Jan. 16, 1912 in Winters, Texas. She and her husband, Herbert Gerhart moved to Arizona in 1954 and farmed in the Kansas Settlement area.
They have three daughters, Louise Richey of Texas and Geraldine Flanders and Ruth Wiegand of Cochise, Ariz.; two sons-in-law, Bill Richey and Bud Flanders; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and her sister Rosalie also survives her. Preceding her in death were her husbands Herbert Gerhart and Gordon Anthony; a grandson Johnny Flanders, and son-in-law Bill Wiegand.
Lorena was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church. She has been president of the Women's Group, Bible Class Teacher and Choir member. Lorena was also very proud that she was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. After moving to Arizona she discovered the game of golf and thoroughly enjoyed that activity with friends. She has always been a gardener and especially proud of her roses, and she raised and canned many vegetables.
After the passing of her first husband, she married Gordon Anthony in 1988. Together, they enjoyed golf, church conventions, visiting grandchildren, and a trip to Alaska. For the past six years, Lorena has been a resident of Northern Cochise Nursing Home. Here she enjoyed bingo, crafts, Jeff at the Piano, Pastor Joe & Dee, Old Fiddlers, Blue Grass Players, and Grace Chapel. Jane Cox and all her volunteers provided many hours of entertainment for the residents. She was the 2010 Nursing Home Rodeo Queen, which gave her much delight. Lorena recently celebrated her 99th birthday with family and friends. The home became her "home," with wonderful care and love from the many, many special nurses.
On early Saturday morning, March 5, 2011, Lorena was called to her eternal home and is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation will be at the church starting at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Cochise Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Lorena's name to the Northern Cochise Nursing Home, 901 W. Rex Allen Dr., Willcox, AZ 85643.
Services entrusted to Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematory of Willcox, Ariz."
