Life Legacy

Mary Eriksson Cannon passed away, comfortably, with family surrounding her, on December 11, 2015, at 2:15 pm, in the home of Jeffrey N. Barnes and Jocelyn J. Barnes, her son and daughter-in-law, located in Cedar City, Utah. Mary is the wife and eternal companion of George R. Cannon, Sr. and is survived by three of her four natural-born children Jeffrey N. Barnes, Claudia L. Boggs, and Matthew M. Barnes and Brandon J. Barnes (deceased). Mary was born of goodly parents, Erik McKinley Eriksson and Minnie Rueber Eriksson, who taught her the good values of life. She lived a wonderful childhood, with its normal bumps and bruises, with her brother Robert Eriksson, Lois Eriksson (now Cannon, deceased), and Margaret Eriksson, in Pasadena, California and loved summer vacations in Balboa, California. She was a blessed mother, who always brought cheer to her children, encouragement for good behavior and manners, and was always there for comfort and love. Mary loved the Girl Scouts of America and worked with that organization, in Pasadena, California for 14 years. She later earned her Associate of Arts degree from Pasadena City College and worked as the Registrar in the Pasadena Unified School District, of Pasadena, California for about 15 years. Mary was religiously inclined and sought greater light and knowledge about life’s struggles and purpose. She led her family to the waters of baptism within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in November 1967. She was instrumental in setting a great example of love for the gospel of Jesus Christ, developing dear friends in the San Marino Ward, California and the Cedarview Ward, Utah, and performing genealogical research and proxy saving ordinances for her ancestry. She served an honorable family-history mission, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to the Dallas/Fortworth Mission, Texas, later in life. Also later in life, Mary married the good and worthy man, George R. Cannon, Sr., and they were sealed for time and all eternity, in the St. George, Utah Temple on November 26, 2010. She trail blazed for linking many of her ancestors to an eternal family structure and surely now enjoys their felicity and love in the Spirit World, awaiting with loved ones, for the great future resurrection of the just and good. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 10:00 am at Southern Utah Mortuary. Interment will be in the St. George Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
