Eulaine grew up on the family farm southwest of Herndon, Kansas along with two sisters and two brothers. She attended Linda Grade School District #38 and Decatur Community (KS.) High School in Oberlin, graduating with the class of 1937. She received her Normal Training certificate to teach while in high school and also took additional classes at Emporia (KS.) Teachers College. She taught in rural one-room grade schools for seven years.
On June 12, 1944, Eulaine was united in marriage to Wesley Gale Benda at the Herndon Covenant Church. Five daughters and one son were born to their union. The family made their home on a farm south of Achilles, Kansas for 21 years before moving to the Erikson home place. Eulaine and Wesley moved to Oberlin, Kansas in 2001 and Eulaine became a resident of the Good Samaritan Home, Oberlin, Kansas in 2005.
Faith and family were very important to Eulaine. She was a member of the Herndon Covenant Church, Herndon, Kansas for over 80 years and served as church pianist and as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was very involved in Covenant Women Ministries and served on the Midwest Covenant Women Board. She was also a member of Gideons Auxiliary and Hello There Hobby Club. She especially used her gift of hospitality to serve many, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who was very proud of her family. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and attending the activities they were involved in.
Eulaine was preceded in death by: husband, Wesley; parents; sisters, Fern Wenger and Eula Waldo; brothers, Kermit Erikson and Cordette Erikson; son-in-law, Mitch Messerly; and infant grandson, Nicholas Maresch.
Funeral Service were Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Herndon Covenant Church, Herndon, Kansas, with Pastor Keith Reuther as officiator.
Burial was in Herndon Covenant Cemetery, Herndon, Kansas.
