Mrs. Ella Boetger departed this life in the hospital at Mitchell, S.D., Wednesday evening, Jan. 5, 1977, following a severe heart attack. She was 75 years of age.

Ella Maria Erickson was born December 30, 1901 at Adaville, Plymouth County, Iowa. Her parents were John and Bettie Erickson.

She became a member of the church through infant baptism, June 15, 1903. She was confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran church, Akron, Iowa, May 27, 1917. Rev. David Knock was her confirmation pastor.

In a wedding service at Elk Point, S.D. she was united in marriage to Leander Henry Boetger. They farmed in the Akron and Hawarden areas until they retired in 1952 and moved into Akron. Leander, or Jim as he was called, died in January 1970.

Mrs. Boetger continued as a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran throughout her life. She was active in the women's organization of the congregation and more lately in Lutheran Church Women. She was interested in people all around her and helped wherever she could.

Among those who survive her departure are her three sons, Donald and Arden Boetger of Akron, and Lowell Boetger of Millard, Nebr.; her daughter Mrs. Leonard (Betty) Halweg of Mitchell, S.D.; her sister, Mrs. Herbert (Agnes) Miller of Akron; ten grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, beside many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leander; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Erickson, and her grandson, Dayle Lee Boetger who died Aug. 6, 1965.

The funeral service in her memory was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan 8 at Immanuel Lutheran church, with Pastor David J. Roy officiating. Carol Harris was organist and accompanied Gary Tucker as He sang "How Great Thou'Art" and "Amazing Grace".

Active pallbearers were Parnell Boetger, Jim Buryanek, Harvey Lias, Lawrence Maynard, William Port and Roland Swanson. Honorary pallbearers were Craig Boetger, Kevin Boetger, Roger Boetger, Tim Boetger, Gerald Groon, Ronald Halweg, Carl Molberg and Gary Port. Internment under the direction of Schroeder funeral home was in Riverside cemetery, Akron.
