She was born the daughter of David and Lena Goldberg. She married Murray Epstein on December 8, 1950. Annie, Murray, and their children moved to the Bay Area in 1964. After ten years as a schoolteacher she began a volunteer career that spanned decades and enriched the lives of countless people. Annie was a member of the Bay Area Museum Guild, and a long-time member of the Bay Area Military Officers Wives club. She also participated in the Art After School program of the Assistance League of the Bay Area. Annie was a past president of the Women of Rotary-Bay Area. She was a Paul Harris Fellow of Space Center Rotary, and was recently made an honorary member of the Seabrook Rotary Club. She served on the board of the Evelyn Meador Library, and as an election judge and a member of the Board of Adjustment for the city of Seabrook. Best known for her volunteer work at CHRISTUS St. John Hospital, Annie made the hospital stay of thousands of patients more comfortable. Over the past 29 years, she logged in over 12,000 hours at the hospital. "I never look at people's faults," she said. "I look at their possibilities." Never without a smile, Annie Epstein loved children (she especially enjoyed teaching rambunctious boys) and animals (strays seemed to find their way to her door.) She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Murray; daughters Donalyn Dietz (R.H.), Maralyn Billings (Terry), and son David Epstein; grandchildren Kathryn Manning (Ryan) and Rebecca Kelly (Steven); and nephews David Friedman (Elizabeth) and Bill Friedman.
