1916-2012 Shirley Harriet Petell, of Pittsfield, died on Thursday, September 13, 2012, at Craneville Place of Dalton, where she had resided for the past five months. Previously, she lived at Sugar Hill Assisted Living in Dalton for two years.
Born in Pittsfield on July 1, 1916, daughter of Harold and Grace Decker Enright, she was educated in St. Charles School and graduated from St. Joseph Central High School.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Albert W. Petell, whom she married on November 29, 1934. He died July 22, 1999.
Mrs. Petell was employed as a tabber at Eaton Paper Company from where she retired in 1981 with sixteen years of service. Prior to that, she had worked at the former England Brothers for thirteen years.
She was a communicant of St. Charles Church and of St. Agnes Church.
Mrs. Petell was an avid bowler and bowled with the Candle Lane Bowling Senior Leagues.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and playing cards.
Mrs. Petell is survived by a son, Robert Petell, and his wife, Theresa, of Pittsfield; two daughters, Patricia Heisler of Port Orange, Fla., and Christine Sacchetti-Glazer of Maryville, Tenn.; two brothers, John Enright of Dalton and Harold Enright of Jacksonville, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Enright of Omaha, Neb., and Elizabeth Witanek of Dalton; as well as nine grandchildren, Kim Dilallo, Michele Ennis, Scott Heisler, Adam, Heisler, Robin Petell, Tina Wood, Lisa Duda, Tricia Sacchetti, and Aron Sacchetti, and twelve great grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by three sisters, Madeline "Jean" Yon, Dawn Delmolino, and Myrtle Blouin, and by two brothers, Orville "OJ" Enright, and Robert Enright.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Shirley Harriet Petell will be held Tuesday, September 18, at 9:30 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Petell may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires at the funeral home.
