A long battle with Alzheimer's ended in peace for Alton Enke, 81, of Bulverde, TX on April 19, 2003. Alton was born to Emil and Hertha (Weise) Enke in Goliad County. His mother died when he was four years old, and he was raised by a dear stepmother, Ottilie (Dohmann) Enke. She and his dad preceded him in death. Alton was baptized as an infant and later reaffirmed his baptism in the Lutheran faith. He was married to Marian Remmers, his wife of 57 years, who survives. Others who survive are his son, Curtis and wife Kathy; two grandchildren, Allison and Mark; a brother, Wilbur and wife Margie; a sister-in-law, Nelrose and two nieces and two nephews. Alton was heart-broken over his only daughter, Jeaneane's death in 2001 and his brother,Harold's death in 2002. Alton served in the 8th Infantry of the European Theater in World War II. He received the Silver Star during the Battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged on December 2, 1945. Alton accepted work at Swift and Company soon afterward and retired in 1982 after working in sales for 33 years in Cuero, Corpus Christi, McAllen and San Antonio. The family is very appreciative of the love and caring concern given to Alton during his blindness and Alzheimer's years, especially the sincere devotion of his caregiver, Christina in the past three years. A Private Graveside Service will be held at 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, at Sunset Memorial Park. A Celebration of Alton's life will follow at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bulverde, TX. A Reception will follow the Services at
the church faith center. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alton's memory may be made to Hospice, The Alzheimer's Association or St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in Bulverde, TX.
