John Englebert was the son of Frederick Englebert of Bremen, Germany and Peachy Shirley of SC. He enlisted in the Civil War Co D. 8th AL Regiment. He was wounded and went to the hospital in Richmond VA. He also made shoes for the soldiers. He was listed as shoemaker in 1880 Alabama census and laborer in 1900 Mississippi census and in 1910 worked at boardinghouse in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He lived most of his life in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
