Death Comes to Mrs. D. A. Emery, 76
Mrs. Annette McIntosh Emery, 76, widow of Daniel A. Emery, died at 7 PM Wednesday in her apartment in the Hotel Ottumwa. She had been in ill health for several years and had suffered from a fractured hip in a fall seven months ago. She lived in Ottumwa most of her life. A member of the First Presbyterian Church she was particularly active in wider affairs of the church including national missions and other activities supported by Presbyterians. Mrs. Emery served for many years as treasurer of the Iowa Presbyterian society, a woman's organization; served several years on the Board of Trustees of the Presbyterian home for the aged at Ackley, and was an honorary life member of the board of national missions of the Presbyterian Church, U. S. A. She was also a member of the Bayview and Books clubs. Mrs. Emery was born in Coal Camp, Missouri, December 16, 1869 daughter of Rebecca Henry and John Youel McIntosh. She was the oldest of six children. She came to Ottumwa as a child. As a young woman she was one of the first two operators for the local telephone company. She moved with her family to Salt Lake City where she was married April 27, 1904, to Mr. Emery. The Ottumwa attorney and businessman. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Albert M. Efner of Ottumwa and Mrs. Helen M. Bartlett of New York City; two grandchildren, Daniel Emery Efner and Sally Ann Efner, and two sisters, Mrs. A. J. Parsons of Springfield, Illinois and Mrs. F. A. Merriman of Los Angeles, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 1/2 years ago and by a son, George Daniel. The body is at the Lester Jay funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM and the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Paul Grabel, D. D. officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stanley Hall, Ralph Burt, Dr. S. F. Singer, Clarence Johnston, Frank Fiedler and Edward Dornif (bio by: "IRISH EYES ARE SMILING")
