He was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Emerson of Shenandoah, VA during his teen years.
Robert was preceded in death by both his birth and adopted parents as well as his son Kenneth Emerson and brothers,
Albert Leon Carper and Franklin McArther Carper.
He served several years in the Military and lived in California and Maryland before moving to South Carolina.
Surviving are his wife Janice (Divers) Carper of Winnsboro, SC, a daughter Lorie King of Sacramento, CA, three grandchildren along with two brothers Edgar Wayne Carper of Wooster, OH and Carson James Carper, Jr. of
Harrisonburg, VA, two sisters, Betty Ann Kerns of Baltimore, MD and Janet Lee Hamilton of Hinton, VA along with several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held July 2, 2006 in Winnsboro, SC. Some of Robert's remains were scattered along the Skyline Drive, VA by his sisters Betty and Janet.
