Charles "Charlie" Rea Emch, born on 23 September 1898, at Carroll, in Wayne County, Nebraska and died on 17 May 1977, at Bismarck, North Dakota. He was the son of Niclaus "Nicholas" Carlton Emch (1852-1930) and his wife, Rachel Rebecca (née Torrence) Emch (1857-1947).
Charles homesteaded northwest of Leith in 1906, but sought a career in banking after graduating from the Bismarck Commercial College in 1918, and worked for the local Peoples' State Bank in Leith until it closed in 1921. He later worked in the Grant County Auditor's Office from 1924 until 1930, served as the Post Master for nearby Carson for two years. In 1934, he moved his family to Bowman for a couple of years before joining Bank of North Dakota where he was a field manager and later manager of the land office department until 1957.
He married on 22 February 1918, his first wife, Melvena Hanson (1901-1938). From their marriage resulted the following children: Ceata Edyth (nee Emch) Thielges, Donald E. Emch, and Ronald Emch.
Charles married in August 1941, his second wife, Lola May Forrester. No additional children resulted from this second marriage.
