Born Jan. 6, 1928, in Pennington Gap, Va., he had lived in Tennessee since 1952.
A member of Pennington Gap First United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran, he was also a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 760.
He retired in 1987 after working for 37 years as an electrician at K-25 Site and Y-12 and X-10 Plants, Oak Ridge.
He was preceded in death by parents, Ernest Truman Ely Sr. and Edna Neeley Ely,; brothers, Robert A. Ely and Fred L. Ely; and grandson, Taylor Bowlin.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Sherry Ely of Oliver Springs; daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Gary Skeen of Knoxville; grandsons, Fisher Ely of Oliver Springs, Christian Armstrong of Knoxville, Devin Ely of Oak Ridge and Derrick Ely of Claxton; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Betsy Ely of Wytheville, Va.; and nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, in Sharp Funeral Home, Oliver Springs.
Funeral service will follow in the chapel, with Pastor Jim Shelton officiating.
Graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Clinton
