Justine Elwell, was the sister of Jenette (Elwell) Wooldridge. This was Justeena's 2nd marriage but this record indicates she had been married to Josiah Arbogast for 30 years. The record also says she had six children of whom five were still living. Josiah and Justeena would actually have been Sarah's great uncle and great aunt. Justeena had married first Wilbur R. Upson and they had a daughter Lilly M. Upson born in 1875. The Upson Family Genealogy, includes Wilbur R. Upson as a son of Jesse and Mary (Waters) Upson. Wilbur married 15 Feb 1875 in Plainfield, Michigan to "Tennatty Elwell" and 2nd on 22 Oct 1875 in Rockford, Michigan to Jennie Maunson. Lilly must have been born during this brief 1st marriage. Justeena or "Justeny" (Elwell) Upson married Josiah Arbogast on 02 Jun 1877. Justeena is also seen as Justeeny, Justine and Tena. Lilly M. Upson married 1st Noble Taylor on 22 Jan 1894 in Van Buren County and then to Swan Nelson on 17 Feb 1917 in Muskegon County, Michigan. Lilly's parents are given in these records as Wilbur Upson and Justeeny and Justina Elwell.
Josiah and Justuny (Elwell) Arbogast were living in Lee Township of Allegan County when their son, Syrus Arbogast died on 04 Oct 1881. He was 1 year and 3 months old when he died. The record indicates he was born in Iowa. He would have been born in July of 1880. Josiah Arbogast died in 1926 and "Justny" (Elwell) Arbogast died on 23 Sep 1950 and both are buried in the Lake Forest Cemetery in Grand Haven, Michigan.
The Grand Haven Tribune carried an obituary for Justny (Elwell) Arbogast on 25 Sep 1950 and it reads: "Mrs. J. Arbogast Dies at Age 94 Mrs. Justny Arbogast, 94 years old, died at the Spring Haven Convalescent home early today following a month's illness. She had been there for the past two weeks. Previously she had made her home with a son, Charles, for the past six years. Her former home here was at 613 Jackson street. Born July 2, 1856 in Connecticut, she moved to this city about 40 years ago coming here from South haven. Her maiden name was Justny Elwell and she was married to the late Josiah Arbogast on June 2, 1877. Surviving are two sons, Philo of Muskegon and Charles of Spring Lake township and a daughter, Mrs. Minnie Westland, Augurn, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. The body was moved to the Van Zantwick funeral home where services will be held on Saturday afternoon. The rev. H. Austin Pellett, rector of St, John's Episcopal church will conduct the services and burial will be in Lake Forest cemetery." This same newspaper carried a follow-up on 25 Sep 1950 and it reads: "Mrs. Justny Arbogast. Funeral services for Mrs. Justny Arbogast, who died last Thursday, were held Saturday afternoon at the Van Zantwick funeral chapel. The Rev. H. Austin Pellett, rector of St. John's Episcopal church, conducted the services."
