AMORY: Alene Sanderson Ellis, 76, died Thursday, September 16, 1999, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born September 6, 1923, in Monroe County. She attended Becker schools. She lived in Amory before moving to Kenosha, Wis., where she lived until returning to Amory 17 years ago. She married Ben Grady Ellis in 1947; he died in 1973. She was employed as a nursing assistant at the Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Kenosha for 27 years before retiring. She attended the Primitive Baptist church. She enjoyed flower gardening and reading her Bible.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pickle Funeral Home with the Rev. William Warren officiating. Burial will be Tuesday in the Green Ridge Cemetery in Kenosha, Wis. Thomas Hansen and Sons in Kenosha in charge of Wisconsin arrangements. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of local arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin Ray Ellis and Joey L. Ellis, both of Kenosha, Wis.; two daughters, Serelda Ann Leek of Kenosha and Katherine L. Harmon of Amory; one brother, Earl Sanderson of Salem, MO; two sisters, Josephine Sanderson and Katherine Owens, both of Amory; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Her husband; her parents, Marvin May Sanderson and Serelda Higgins Sanderson; and a daughter, Bennie Gayle Thompkins, preceded her in death.
Her husband is buried in the Hatley cemetery in Monroe County Mississippi. Her children insisted she be buried here. She died of breast cancer.
