Killed by Lightning
"Last Friday at her home a short distance from Carthage, this county, Mrs. W. H. Bishop met a sudden and very sad death.
It was dinner hour that a light rain began falling, and Mrs. Bishop left the dinner table to go into her room. Scarcely had she entered the room when a terrific crash came, and the smoke that immediately emerged from the room caused Mr. Bishop to rush in only to find the form of his loving wife laying lifeless upon the floor, her clothing ablaze. It was a sad spectacle.
The electric flash had entered down the chimney, crushing into splinters the mantel and fixtures, upsetting the furniture in the room and literally destroying the chair in which it is supposed Mrs. Bishop was seated.
Mrs. Bishop was a sister-in-law to Mrs. R. R. Massey of this city. She was formerly a Miss. Elliott, and was about thirty years of age. A husband, little daughter and many relatives are left to mourn her sad death."
