John Leonard Elliott, 76, of Forsyth, Missouri, died Sunday, May 27, 2007, at his home.

He was born March 16, 1931, in Larned, Kansas, to Alonzo Jacob and Helen Lister-Elliott. He was graduated from Iola (KS) High School in 1949.

He married Betty Jean Menzie Sept. 23, 1950, in Bentonville, Arkansas.

He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from March 5, 1951 to 1955. He served on the USS Toledo during the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Ribbon, Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.

He was a member of the city council in Pittsburg, KS, and a member of the Forsyth United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Forsyth, MO; four sons, John Thomas and wife, Patti, of Forsyth, MO, Dennis Ray and wife, Brenda, of Reeds Spring, MO, Gregory and wife, Patti, of San Francisco, CA, and William of Springfield, MO; five grandchildren, Matthew Elliott and wife, Tegan, of Nixa, MO, Carrie Wright and husband, Shannon, of Springfield, MO, Kendra Elliott of San Francisco, CA, Brandon Elliott, of Olathe, KS, and Ashley Elliott, of Phillipsburg, KS; and a cousin, Betty Jean Williams and husband, Howard, of Oklahoma City, OK.

A son, David Lee, died earlier.

Burial will be May 30, 2007, in the Snapp Cemetery in Forsyth, Missouri.
