Francis L. Eilers, 74, of New Era, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at his home. He was born Nov. 6 1928 in Claybanks Township, the son of Louis and Ethel (Schultz) Eilers. Mr. Eilers married Vernetta Schaner Nov. 30, 1963. He was a life resident of Claybanks Township. He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Rothbury and the Knights of Columbus. He was employed at DuPont Corp. for 35 years until his retirement 12 years ago. Mr. Eilers farmed throughout his time at DuPont and after retiring from DuPont. He is survived by his wife, Vernetta; his son Chris (Brenda) Eilers of Montague; grandchildren, Christine and Ashley Eilers; brothers, John (Louise) Eilers of Montague and Russell (Paula) Eilers of Rothbury; sisters, Betty (Bill) Field of Shelby, Barbara Cheever of Boise, Idaho, Rose Marie (Lane) White of Muskegon, and Margaret (Jerry) Leutzinger of Shelby. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Doug Kocher and brother-in-law, Roy Cheever. Funeral mass Saturday, June 14, 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Rothbury with Fr. Phillip Witkowski and Fr. Thomas Schiller as celebrants. Interment in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Claybanks. Memorials to Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church or the American Heart Society are appreciated. Arrangements by Cooper-Harris Funeral Home, Shelby.
