Birth: Aug. 9, 1853
Indiana, USA
Death: Mar. 2, 1942
Vernon County
Missouri, USA

Alfred Pierce Eikenbary was born on 8/9/1853. He was the son of Samuel and Mary (Albaugh) Eikenbary. Alfred was named for Franklin Pierce, the 1853 Democratic President-Elect.

On 6/5/1855, when Alfred Pierce was nearly two years old, his brother George Monroe was four years old, and his mother, Sarah Jane was pregnant with a third child, according to family history tragedy struck. Their father, Zachariah accidentally drowned in the Wabash River. Zachariah was only 27 years 6 months & 2 days old at the time of his death. Sarah was left to raise three small children alone.

In 1864, nine years after her husbands death, Sarah moved to Mercer County Illinois with her father and many other relatives. They traveled nearly 400 miles in a great wagon train with all their possessions to their new home. At that time Monroe was 13, Alfred Pierce 11, and Frank was 9. Since there were excellent schools in New Boston Township the Eikenbary boys' education, after they moved to Mercer County, was likely very good for the times.

Alfred Pierce married Amanda Jane Sloan on 12/29/1875 at Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois. Amanda Jane was the daughter of Robert and Amanda (Trusler) Sloan.

After the death of Amanada's father in 1875,, Alfred Pierce and Amanda (Sloan) Eikenbary left Mercer County. They moved to Pittsford Township in Butler County, Iowa to be near Alfred's brother Monroe and his family. But they must not have liked Iowa because they were back in Mercer County, Illinois by 1881.

Alfred Pierce and Amanda (Sloan) Eikenbary again left Mercer County after the death of Alfred's mother Sarah. This time they moved to Lane County, Western Kansas and then to Kansas City, Missouri, where work was more available. Alfred Pierce had been a carpenter all his life.

Alfred & Amanda spent the rest of their lives in Missouri. Amanda Jane died 6/17/1925 in Rosedale in Kansas City. Alfred Pierce lived for another 17 years. He stayed with one or another of his children until his death on 3/2/1942 in Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri.

Alfred and Amanda are both buried in the Forest Hill Cemetery, in Kansas City, Missouri.
