Of Scituate, formerly of Jamaica Plain, described by one of her sons as "The golden thread in the fabric of our lives", Mary died peacefully Wednesday June 22, 2011 after a short illness surrounded by her family. She was 87 years old. Born the only child of Irish Immigrants, Mary was raised in Jamaica Plain, graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy and attended Regis College. Married to William Driscoll for 43 years, he predeceased her in 1992. Mary was a dedicated daughter, wife and aunt but her true calling was as a mother. Another son said "While Mum didn't write a bestseller, conduct an orchestra, or attain fame or celebrity, she was a great artist and we were fortunate to be her masterpiece." She was devoted to her family and that devotion was exceeded only by an unwavering faith. Never without a smile, eternally optimistic, outgoing, energetic and a joy to be around, Mary always found the good in everyone and everything. She was and will remain forever, both a wonderful example as well as an inspiration to her family. She will be missed by her friends and neighbors in Scituate, the parishioners of Saint Anthony's in Cohasset were she was a regular communicant and by her extended friendships in Jupiter, Florida where she wintered.

She leaves five sons; William and his wife Mary Frances, Thomas and his wife Jane, Kevin and his wife Kathleen, Brian and his wife Joyce, and Jay and his wife Jean and one daughter, Christine. She was further blessed with 18 grandchildren.
