Doris Jane Edwards Baker, 79, of Kingsport, born in 1933, born again in 1955, passed from death to life on February 3, 2013.

Doris was born in Jonesville, VA, where she lived for about 6 years. Then she lived in the Evarts, KY, area through her first year of high school, after which she and her family moved to Pennington Gap, VA.

While she was in high school, she worked part-time for Belk's in Pennington Gap. Shortly after her graduation from Pennington Gap High School, she went to work for Lee Bank and Trust Company. During her employment there, she met the man who would become her husband, Glenn E. Baker, when he came in and purchased traveler's checks, which, according to her, he did not need.

After many years as a housewife and a stay at home mother, Doris obtained an Associate's Degree from Bristol College, and eventually went back into banking, working at Home Federal, which was merged into First Tennessee. She retired from First Tennessee in 1994.

She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, and had also attended Celebration Church.

Doris and Glenn married on November 19, 1955. They were married for 50 years and one day. Glenn went to be with the Lord on November 20, 2005.

Doris was also preceded in death by her parents, Daisy Mae Cox Edwards and Elbert Ellis Edwards, and an infant sister.

She is survived by her children: son, Michael T. Baker and wife, Sondra; daughter, Lisa B. Gregg and husband, Phil; daughter, Rebecca B. Burleson and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Matthew P. Gregg, Whitney B. Gregg, Kathryn E. Baker Bennett and husband, Russell C. Bennett, Andrew M. Baker, Wyatt D. Burleson, Ethan T. Burleson, Caleb B. Burleson, and Lili C. Burleson; great step-grandsons, Channing Bennett and Jaedon Bennett; brothers, Robert (Bob) Edwards and wife, Barbara, Ron Edwards, George Edwards and wife, Joyce; sisters, Freda Edwards, Ferne Edwards Dennis and husband, Bobby, Carmen Edwards Harris and husband, David.

Her usual parting words to anyone were "God go with you."

The family would like to thank the staff of Holston Valley Medical Center and Holston Manor for their assistance and kindness during the last several months of her illness.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 6 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, February 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Phil Gregg, Jeff Burleson, Matt Gregg and Andy Baker.
