Ruth married Charles L. Barnes (1892-1980) on May 2, 1920 in Burrton, Kansas. Charles was a son of Armstead L. Barnes and Inez G. Dickerson of Patterson, Kansas and later Burrton, Kansas.
Ruth was the daughter of William D. Edwards, born in Indiana, a farmer and carpenter, and Rachel Murry, born in Illinois. William and Rachel are also buried at Burrton Cemetery.
Ruth was an active member of the First Christian Church of Burrton, where she had served as a Bible school teacher. Ruth died at the age of 28 at the Halstead Hospital in Halstead, Harvey County, Kansas on September 25, 1924. The length of her illness was short. Daughter La Vada Hollyfield stated that her mother Ruth had an operation to remove ovarian cyst, but did not survive. She went on to say that the surgeon was Dr. Arthur E. Hertzler. Dr. Hertzler, raised in Kansas, started as a horse and buggy doctor and became a renowned surgeon, establishing the Hertzler Hospital in Halstead.
Upon Ruth's death, she left daughters La Vada, age 3, and Inez, age 16 months. Rurh was also survived by her parents, three brothers and one sister; Earl Edwards of Wichita, J. J. Murry of Halstead, C. L. Murry of Lyons, and Mrs. Maud Carter of Newton. Ruth's funeral services were held at the First Christian Church on Sunday, September 28th, by Rev. M. J. Duncan. Ruth's obituary was shown in the Burrton Graphic newspaper on October 2, 1924.
Charles and Ruth had two children:
1. Lola LaVada Barnes who married Francis Hollyfield.
2. Inez G. Barnes who married Wayne Hoobler and next married Raymond Latham.
