Jessie Valentine Edwards Blair, 67, of Interlachen died at her residence Nov. 30, 2001, following an extended illness.
She was born in Lexington, Ky., on Valentines Day in 1934. She had lived most of her life in Putnam County. While attending Crescent City High School, she played on the basketball team and fell in love with sports. After graduating from high school, she became involved in the health-care industry and had worked as a home health care aide. She worked with her parents, the late William Albert and Lottie Mae Edwards, who owned and operated the Edwards Taxi Service in Palatka. In her spare time and after retirement, she enjoyed traveling, especially to the Blue Ridge Mountains. She was fond of doing needlework and listened to Elvis Presley. She was an avid auto racing fan, especially NASCAR, with Dale Earnhart being her favorite driver. Her love of auto racing is reflected in the family's desire to use the Art Casket, "The Race if Over" depicting the checkered flag being dropped on a NASCAR race.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James Buzzell Blair Sr..
She is survived by five daughters and son-in-law, Shirley and Wayne Turner of Miami, Robin Shiver, Debbie and Turner Ramage of Palatka, Treva Stanley of Fort Worth, Texas, Candace Blair of Melrose; two sons, James B. Blair Jr. and companion Brenda McCoy of Interlachen and Steve Blair of Palatka; two sisters, Evie Patterson and Mary Roberts of Daytona Beach; two brothers, Clyde E. Edwards of Palatka and Jimmy Edwards of Williamsburg, Va.; 13 grandchildren, Wayne Turner Jr., Brad Turner, Tish McMullen, Chrystal Shiver Worthington, Shannon Stanley, Tyler Blair, Alan Stanley, Trey Ramage, Brittany Blair, Adam Stanley, Jessie Blair, Craig Quantz and Kristen Blair; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends whom all loved her.
