Clark Eugene Edwards, 79, of Bella Vista, Ark., and formerly of Garden City, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at the Northwest Regional Medical Center of Benton County, Ark.
He was born Aug. 19, 1929, in Chickasha, Okla., to Harry H. "Pete" Edwards and Thelma Burgess Edwards.
On April 30, 1952, he married Wanda Ruth Harris in Coats.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the First Marine Division. He was discharged from the Marines on Sept. 1, 1953.
He was a graduate of Wichita State University. He taught biology and coached several sports on the high school level in Burdett, Syracuse and Garden City. After 35 years in education and coaching, he retired and moved to Bella Vista in June 1991.
He was a member of the Bella Vista Christian Church, where he was a past deacon and had worked on various committees. He was the church representative on the board of Helping Hands and was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the 9 Hole Men's Golf Club. He worked for the last 15 years as an employee for the POA golf courses.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; one son, Clark Douglas Edwards of Bentonville, Ark.; one daughter, Lesa Edwards of Wichita; one granddaughter and two grandsons.
Memorial service was at the Bella Vista Christian Church. Military honors were at the Fayetteville VA National Cemetery and was presented by the Bella Vista Veterans Honor Guard.
