Jane Edmonds Aitken, 63, of Hillsboro, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro with the Rev. Paul Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Jane was born in Fort Worth, Texas, to Jack and Ann (Smith) Edmonds. She grew up in Cleburne and Bono. A graduate of North Richland Hills High School, she also attended East Texas State University. She enjoyed playing softball in her youth. On Feb. 1, 1974, she married Paul Aitken in Bynum. In 2001, she was a torch bearer for the Winter Olympics which were held in Salt Lake City. In recent years, she has served as a speaker for Southwest Organ Donation and Stonecroft Ministries. Jane was one of only a few 15 year liver transplant survivors. In past years she worked as a consultant to Gov. Ann Richards administration. She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro, a past president of the Christian Women Connection, Hill County Democratic Women, Red Hat Club, Heart of Texas Independent Living Council where she served as treasurer, Lively Livers Transplant Group, and long time member of Texas Board of Realtors where she served as a past chairman.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Aitken, of Hillsboro; daughters, Donna Jean Crunk and husband, Bruce, of Crawford, and Laurie Aitken Mach of Tonkawa, Okla.,; sons, Paul J. Aitken and wife, Ida, of Burleson, and Jacky Aitken and wife, Jamie, of Whitney; brother, Randy Jack Edmonds and wife, Annie, of Joshua; grandchildren, Nolan Crunk, D. J. Crunk and wife, Christian, Ashley Horton and husband, Anthony, Jay Aitken, C. J. Aitken, Megan Aitken, Raegan Mach and Matthew Mach; great-grandsons, Braden Crunk and Ryan Horton; and many other loving family and friends.
