VIRGINIA BEACH--Esther Edgerton Allen, formerly of Rocky Mount, daughter of the late H. Haskell and Mary A. Pearson Edgerton was born October 13, 1911 in Wayne County, N.C.
She graduated from Nahunta High School and attended Guilford College for one year. After a few years of staying at home, she graduated from Parkview Hospital School of Nursing in Rocky Mount, NC, where she met and married her husband, Herman Allen who preceded her in death January 10, 1986. Esther moved her membership from Nahunta Friends Meeting, joining her husband at Marvin United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount, NC, where she served the church faithfully until selling her home and moving to Virginia Beach with her son Robert and family, maintaining her membership at Marvin United Methodist.
She is survived by her son, Robert Allen and wife Cheryl; two grandchildren, Christopher and Amanda Allen as well as her brother, Dr. J. Wilbert Edgerton of Greensboro, NC. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 1912 Sunset Ave., Rocky Mount, NC. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Marvin United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Faye Ethridge officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
