The Civil War grave marker was provided by the Veterans Administration at the request of Frank's grandniece Leigh Edgerton Marshall Glazier and her husband Robert Glazier. It was placed on the gravesite in April 2012.
Frank enlisted in the Union Army on Oct 12, 1861 and is listed in the "Official Roster of the soldiers of the State of Ohio. Frank William Edgerton joined the 1st Ohio Light Artillery Regiment (Company G) on December 10, 1861. He enlisted, "aged 18" (he was 17)as a private. He was promoted to Full Sergeant, and then to Full First Sergeant, and finally, on May 2, 1865, to Full Second Lieutenant. The Company fought at battles in Tennessee (including Stones River, Pulaski, Franklin and Nashville). Frank W. Edgerton was mustered out at Camp Chase, Ohio on August 31, 1865 (see Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio, 1886).
Frank W. Edgerton applied for a Civil War Invalid Pension on May 4, 1886. The application cited Frank's service in the 1st Ohio Light Artillery (Co. G). Frank's widow, "Rose D. Edgerton", applied for a widow's pension on July 28, 1900. She was residing in the state of Colorado at the time of the application (see National Archives Pension Applications; Application #572331, Certificate #839616; and Application #723550, Certificate #515316).
