"Maud Edens Crider of Lampasas died Jan. 24, 2006, at Rollins Brook Community Hospital at the age of 91.
Funeral services were Jan. 27 at First Presbyterian Church in Lampasas. The Rev. Kelly Yeager Chadwick officiated. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Crider was born March 26, 1914, in Lampasas to Benjamin Edens and Bessye Edens. She became a member of First Presbyterian Church at the age of 11.
After her graduation from Lampasas High School in 1933, she worked for Southwestern Telephone Co. and the Rural Telephone Co.
She married William "Bill" Crider on Oct. 9, 1935, in Lampasas, where they made their home before moving to the Buchanan Lake area, where her husband worked on Buchanan Dam.
In 1937, their only child, Billie Jo, was born at Rollins Brook.
In 1939, the family moved to Austin and later to Houston for a short time before finally coming back to Lampasas.
Mrs. Crider was a homemaker and active in the Lampasas County Home Demonstration Club. She later began working for the Lampasas Leader newspaper.
She was active in local school activities and attended PTA meetings. With the help of County Agent Laura Thorpe, she started a girls' 4-H club and taught them to sew, cook and do needlework.
In the 1960s, Mrs. Crider served as president of the Lampasas Democratic Women's Club.
After her husband's death, she volunteered at the elementary school and served as a substitute teacher. She also volunteered at the Senior Center until arthritis made it impossible for her to be active.
Mrs. Crider is survived by her daughter, Jo Ater, of Lampasas; a grandson, Richard Ater and wife, Hannah, of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two older sisters, Alta May and Mary, and a son-in-law, Kenneth Ater.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
