Daisy Barnes, 81, rural Caney, died Tuesday morning, April 3, 2001, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 6, at the Graves Memorial Chapel, Caney, with Rev. Andy Daniels officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney.
The family has suggested a memorial to the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #9768 for the cancer program. Memorials may be left at Graves Funeral Home.
Visitation at the funeral home will be until 5 p.m. Wednesday; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday; and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1p.m.
Daisy Barnes was born Oct. 10, 1919, at Bartlesville, Okla., to Oscar and Ollie (Pennington) Edens. She was raised and educated in Copan, Okla. where she graduated from Copan High School in 1938.
On July 2, 1938, she married Cordell "Cork" Barnes at Nowata, Okla. He preceded his wife in death on Nov. 17, 1985.
She worked for Electra Inc. in Independence for 10 years, and later worked as a postal clerk in California and Tyro, Kan. for 13 years where she retired.
She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #9768, Caney, and the VFW National Home. She was a member of the Copan Baptist Church.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by two sons, Carl Barnes, rural Dearing, and Billie Barnes, rural Caney; two brothers, Clifford Edens, Towanda, Kan., and Robert Edens, Copan, Okla.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, John, Paul and Wesley Barnes, one great-grandson, her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Graves Funeral Home of Caney is in charge of arrangements.
