Opal Edens Bennett departed this life in her home on Tuesday, July 26, at the age of 87 years, seven months and 12 days old. Opal was the daughter of Orber and Bertha Fogg Edens on December 14, 1917 in Washburn, Mo. She was a member of the Marionville First Baptist Church, and was a retired Executive Secretary with the Selective Service. She was a Past Worthy Matron and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Keith Bennett on January 29, 1980, her parents and a brother Harry Edens. Her survivors included her three cousins, Everet James "Jim" Edens of Washburn, Bobby Ray Edens of Slidell, La., and Lanola Jeannie Whitney of Nashville, Tenn., and a niece, Brenda Swearengin of Springfield and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 28, in the Williams Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Max Edmondson officiating. Burial followed in the Eastlawn Cemetery in Springfield, under the direction of the Williams Funeral Home of Marionville.
